Songs for E – one month in

E is one month old today. To celebrate, here is a playlist of songs I made for her. All of them, with the exception of the first and last, were written to celebrate the arrival of children. The first is a favourite of S and contains the line “Hey you with the pretty face/ Welcome to the human race” so seems vaguely appropriate, and the last is the story of a conception and birth and finishes with the line “We invented love/ And that’s the greatest story ever told” I hope E knows how much she is already loved.

All songs are available to buy from reputable online and physical music vendors – remember, buy your music! You’re investing in art!

ELO – Mr Blue Sky

Annie Lennox – Precious

Barenaked Ladies – When You Dream

David Bowie – Kooks

Bob Dylan – Forever Young

I Am Kloot – Ferris Wheels

Fleetwood Mac – Beautiful Child

Jesca Hopp – Intelligentactile 101

Stone Temple Pilots – A Song for Sleeping

Pretenders – Show Me

Suzanne Vega – World Before Columbus

The Mountain Goats – Pink and Blue

Good luck with this. There comes a time when a parent is so desperate for peace in the car on a long car journey that seemingly infinite number of repeats of The Sun Has Got His Hat On will be tolerated
